Public and Community Programs

The Hawaii Nature Center in `Iao Valley on Maui offers a large variety of custom programs for all kinds of groups including school groups, church groups, employee retreats, and various clubs. In the past we have hosted groups as diverse as Kamehameha Schools staff, Habitat for Humanity volunteers, canoe clubs, boy scouts, and mainland groups like West Coast Connections.

We will work with you to create a custom day or overnight program that works best for your group. Overnight accommodations are also available on our Maui campus.

High school and adult groups of all kinds acan participate in a service learning project which may include a guided hike, invasive species removal, lo`i kalo (taro patch) restoration, and much more.

Keiki Birthday Parties. Invite your friends to play outdoors at the Hawaii Nature Center's Maui campus for your next birthday. Explore the museum, hike through the forest, and do a nature craft with one of our Environmental Educators. Open the file below for more information.

Rainforest Walks. Join us along ancient footpaths along `Iao Stream into mystical `Iao Valley. Hear the history and legends of the Hawaiian rainforest as we trek along this moderate loop trail. See ancient Hawaiian village sites, kalo, native flora and fauna, coffee and kukui groves and your own personal viewing of the `Iao Needle. Walks are offered daily Mon.-Fri. at 1:30 PM, Sat.-Sun at 2:00 PM. Please call our Gift Shop at (808) 244-6500 ext. 25 to make your reservation. Prices: $29.95 Adults, $19.95 kids (5-12).

Carnivorous Caterpillar Collection. Evening program. Usually a successful collection, it is never a guarantee that you will find a caterpillar. Either way, this is a truly unique and exciting experience. Caterpillars will be added to our museum exhibit where visitors can observe and learn about these amazing creatures. Collection program is scheduled based on interest. 

Sensational Nature Adventure Program (SNAP)! Spring Break March 15 - 19. For keiki 5-10 years old. Mon.-Fri. from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Join the fun and let your keiki enjoy exploring nature with our staff of environmental educators.
